This WebQuest has been designed for students in 3 HAVO/VWO. It is essentially designed for English as a Foreign Language courses, but could also be used for a project in a history class (English spoken). In the process of learning about the discovery of America, students gain new knowledge about the English language and practice their writing and reading skills. All this is achieved through a task-based, creative assignment, which will motivate the students to do their best, and hopefully they will have lots of fun along the way!
Some notes on usage
- The WebQuest will take 6-8 classes (based on a schedule of 50 minutes per class) when done full-time.
- This WebQuest is supposed to be self-explanatory. Although the students can work on this by themselves, the teacher can be a coach, someone to encourage the students, and help them if they get stuck. The teacher is also responsible for forming the groups, explaining how to work with a WebQuest, and providing the students with A3-sized paper.
- There is a possibility to turn this assignment into a competition, in which the best newspaper wins a prize. The teacher can decide whether this is a good idea for this particular class.
